After the establishment of the puppet Manchuria state, the United States did not recognize its legal status, so it did not establish diplomatic relations with the new capital, however, it retained its original consular institution in Northeast China. In the spring of 1934, U.S. Vice Consul Gerard Wanner and his wife Layla came to Mukden to take office, through a large number of photos from them, we can see into the past of the living condition of diplomats during that age.
